A recent survey by CareerBuilder.com found that 57% of hiring managers have reported catching a a lie on a candidate’s application.
The most common resume lie cited? Nearly 1 in 5 noted applicants who stretched out dates to cover up gaps in employment. Other areas in which applicants have lied include:
- 18% – Past employers
- 16% – Academic degrees and institutions
- 15% – Technical skills and certifications
- 8% – Accomplishments
