A recent survey by American Express found that 42 percent of small businesses have reduced their energy use, and only 29 percent have passed along the higher fuel costs to customers. Just a year ago, 29 percent of the survey’s respondents reduced energy use and 31 percent raised prices to make up for higher fuel costs.
The survey also found that the number of respondents seeing growth opportunities within the next six months has shrunk to 68 percent. This is down from 85 percent a year ago. However while many may be pessimistic about their future,44 percent of small business owners say they love what they do and cannot imagine making a living any other way.« Return to all articles
