A recent Harvard study, “Sweat the Small Stuff,â€? found that ordinary people are capable of producing creative work. Additionally, researcher Teresa M. Amabile found that creativity had more to do with the daily events of workers than productivity demands. For example, workers in a good mood were likely to have more creative ideas.

Five management behaviors which the study found to have a positive influence on moods:

■ Supporting people emotionally.

■ Monitoring behavior in a positive way, such as giving positive feedback and providing information needed to do better work.

■ Recognizing good performance, particularly in a public setting.

■ Consulting with team members.
