The selection of cost accounting software tool can be done on the following parameters – need, expandability, compatibility and affordability. 

How strong is your need for cost accounting software? Can your small business do without such a tool? If you feel that such a tool is merely satisfying your curiousness to acquire one, you really don’t need any cost accounting software for your small business. 

Second aspect to be considered is about expandability of the software. Today you are a small business owner, that doesn’t stop you from being a large business owner tomorrow. Is your cost accounting software ready to become expand to larger scales without any need for reinvention? 

Compatibility is the third issue to be paid close attention to. Are you current computers and other hardware compatible with the new cost accounting software you are planning to purchase? Confirm this before making any decision. Last but not the least, the cost of can you afford to purchase the software tool? Is your business large enough to absorb the high costs of installation, training and recurring costs? It is worth remembering that purchasing cost accounting software doesn’t mean only the upfront costs. Your employees have to be trained, the work will be slower initially and so on. All of this incurs costs.
