American Express Business Travel is predicting that airline tickets will increase 3 percent to 6 percent this year, and hotel costs will rise 1 percent to 5 percent. But what’s worse is the fact that business travelers are going to be nickeled and dimed to death by surcharges, fees, and even penalties.
So, grit your teeth and grab that credit card as you pay for:
- Up to a $10 fuel surcharge on airfare.
- Anywhere from $25 to $200 to change your flight. Orbitz and Travelocity are also going to charge you $30 to change a ticket and $25 to change a room reservation.
- About $50 if you plan to check out of some hotels before your scheduled departure time.
- And, if you’re flying ATA, then bring your own pillow and blanket. Borrow one of theirs and you’ll be paying $9.95.
